The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Programme
Environmental Impact Assessment Programme engages to ensure that major development projects and activities are sustainable and environmentally friendly by ensuring that such projects and activities undergo an environmental & social impact assessment in order to determine the said sustainability and friendliness before they are implemented.
The Program is guided by the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014. In addition to detailing the impact assessment process including the review of impact statements, the Regulation also details provisions for the issuance of environmental certificates for development project as well as for the violations of such provisions. Therefore, the performance of the Program is considered from the number of applications received for impact assessment and the number approvals given; stop-notices and cancellations of approvals that show defiance of approvals are also included.

- Screen project briefs for their potential impacts and recommend to ED for Action
- Organize and coordinate the scoping, draft statement review process and advice on public consultation
- Highlighting relevant background information gained during the screening process in order to facilitate WG discussion
- Conduct initial reviews of the completed Draft Statements
- Noting whether all ToR items were address
- Evaluating the technical analysis provided and provisions for mitigating measures
- Present project summaries to WG
- Present to the WG summary of comments on a draft statement
- Communicate decision of the WG to ED
- Prepared minutes of meetings of the WG
