The National Environment Agency (NEA) is The Gambia's principal body for environmental management, established under the National Environment Management Act (NEMA) 1994. We coordinate environmental policy, enforce quality standards, and advise the Government on environmental matters.
To apply for an EIA, you need to submit a project brief to NEA describing your proposed development. Our EIA team will review the brief, determine the scope of assessment required, and guide you through the process. Environmental violations can be reported through our contact form, by calling our head office, or by visiting any of our five regional offices across The Gambia. All complaints are investigated and appropriate enforcement actions taken.
Yes. Our GIS unit provides professional geospatial services including field data collection, cartographic mapping, spatial analysis, and GIS training programs. These services are available to government agencies, NGOs, and private sector organizations.
The primary legislation is the National Environment Management Act (NEMA) 1994, supplemented by the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations 2014, Hazardous Chemicals Regulations 1999, and the Anti Littering Regulations 2007. You can find these documents on our About page.
